Peter Avis
Peter W. Avis is a partner in the firm. His preferred areas of practice are Civil and
Criminal Litigation, particularly:
  • Family Law and Estate Litigation including divorce, common-law claims, custody, maintenance and property claims, Wills variation applications and contested estates;
  • Personal Injury Claims including ICBC and occupier's liability;
  • Commercial litigation including contract disputes, bidding claims, and builders liens;
  • Wrongful Dismissal;
  • Criminal defence including drug offences, assault, and impaired driving.

Mr. Avis was born and raised in the Parksville area. He completed both his Undergraduate Degree in Economics and his Law Degree at the University of British Columbia. He articled in Nanaimo and was called to the Bar in 1979.

In 1980, Mr. Avis joined Gary Davis to form the firm Davis & Avis. Since 1980 he has carried on a varied litigation practice with emphasis on civil litigation. Mr. Avis has lectured for Malaspina College Community Education on various topics including Family Law and Personal Injury.

Mr. Avis served as a director of the Bayside Squash Club and the Oceanside Youth Soccer Association for many years. He spent fourteen years actively coaching youth soccer teams at various levels and ages, and continues to play old-timers soccer. He is a dedicated cyclist and a member of a number of Mid-Island cycling clubs and advocacy groups. When not busy practicing law, Mr. Avis is most often found riding or hiking in the back wood trails of Vancouver Island.
